Seafood Standards Council
The New Zealand Seafood Standards Council
The Seafood Standards Council is an official committee of the New Zealand Seafood Industry Council and is primarily concerned with the assurance of food safety for seafood produced in New Zealand. Acting as an advisory council to Government, it is this country's officially recognised technical authority in:
- Setting standards of seafood safety
- Specifying competence and diligence requirements
- Identifying training requirements and facilitating the provision of training
- Keeping the industry well informed on seafood safety
- Developing negotiating strategies for access to overseas markets
- Providing policy advice to Government and industry organisations on seafood safety
- Specifying compliance regimes and use of sanctions at the delivery level
Membership
Current members of the Seafood Standards Council are; Craig Ellison (Chair), Shane Walsh (Sanford Ltd), Marie McDonald (Southland), Stella Stacey (Independent Fisheries Ltd), Dorothy-Jean McCoubrey (Aqauculture NZ), Mike Carroll (Aotearoa Fisheries Ltd), David Jones (Sealord Group Ltd), Belinda Allan (consumers representative); Alastair MacFarlane (New Zealand Seafood Industry Council), Cathy Webb (New Zealand Seafood Industry Council), Carol Barnao (NZFSA, NZ and Export Stds).Observers from NZFSA, NZFSA Verification Agency and industry are invited to attend each meeting.
